§ 15-21. Generally.

  • (a)

    Maximum. Except as otherwise posted, no person shall drive a vehicle at a speed in excess of thirty (30) miles per hour within the city.

    (b)

    Downtown area. Except as otherwise posted, no person shall drive a vehicle in the downtown area at a speed in excess of twenty (20) miles per hour. For the purpose of this section, the downtown area is described as including Front Street to Seventh Street and including State Line Avenue to Hickory Street.

    (c)

    School, church and hospital zones. Except as otherwise posted, no person shall drive a vehicle in a school, church or hospital zone at a speed in excess of fifteen (15) miles per hour. For the purpose of this section a school, church or hospital zone is described as any place a school, church or hospital is located, and the area within one-half block of said school, church or hospital.

    (d)

    Trucks, buses of over one-ton capacity. Except as otherwise posted, no person shall drive a truck or bus of one-ton capacity or over (factory tonnage) at a speed in excess of twenty (20) miles per hour. However, in restricted zones no such truck or bus shall be driven at a speed in excess of fifteen (15) miles per hour. The restricted zones are the downtown area and all school, church and hospital zones.
